Women's boutique, Old Town Tustin CA
A transactional e-commerce storefront that carries the curatorial authority and warmth of the physical boutique.

The challenge
A curated boutique in business since 2009 needed to move online without losing what makes it special. The risk with fashion e-commerce is dilution — becoming just another generic grid. The online store had to carry the same curatorial authority and personal warmth as the physical shop.
“A returning customer completes a purchase online without the brand ever feeling diluted into generic fashion-commerce.”
The approach
- 01
Designed for a specific persona: an established woman browsing on her phone in the evening, unhurried — warm, low-light, considered.
- 02
Built a fully transactional-feeling storefront with a real designer roster and genuine product features surfaced as filters (including the boutique’s recurring “no zippers”).
- 03
Kept the commerce layer platform-agnostic behind an adapter, built against Lightspeed R-Series as the most likely fit for a single-location boutique.
- 04
Treated the storefront as an isolated app in the monorepo so it can be deployed and evolved independently.
Design iteration
Decisions over variants — a committed palette
Rather than shipping competing prototypes, the design story here is a trail of deliberate, documented decisions. Three palettes were weighed — eggplant + champagne, matte-black + terracotta, or building both as switchable themes — and the work committed to a single “drenched” eggplant-and-champagne identity, with the “default AI-fashion” cream/sand/beige look explicitly banned. The reflexive font picks (Fraunces, Cormorant, Playfair) were rejected in favor of Bodoni Moda paired with Hanken Grotesk, giving the store a Didone editorial voice that feels like the boutique, not a template.
